Today's YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To

OK, first of several posts today. We'll have recaps of tonight's O's and Caps games plus, hopefully, another Caps-related post. Until then, enjoy the fine sounds of a bunch of guys from Quebec doing pig squeals. It's Despised Icon with "Furtive Monologue."

It's Tuesday, so you know what that means? It's time to sing-a-long with Six Feet Under and Ice-T doing "One Bullet Left." Top them if you can, survive if they let you!

Today's YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To

If there is one frequently asked question about this blog, it is "How did you come up with the name Hangar 39?" Well, today is your lucky day because I'm going to provide the answer. Granted, I've told three of The Five what it is, but for those that may have stumbled upon this on their travels down the series of tubes that is the information superhighway, here's the scoop. The 39 comes from two sources: one, it was my hockey number at one point. I wore it in honor of one of my favorite players as a kid, Doug Gilmour. Gilmour, who was nicknamed "Killer," wore #39 when he played for the Calgary Flames and when I took the number, there weren't many players out there that had it.

The second comes from this song, which I was listening to when I was thinking of a blog name. It's "Hangar 18" by Megadeth. Now besides the fact that it's a kickass jam, it also comes complete with one of the most ridiculous metal videos ever made (this might have to be a separate post). The video has Megadeth surrounded by Vic Rattlehead and a bunch of Muppets that are supposed to be aliens. One of the aliens, I swear, looks like the creature from "Mac And Me."

So with that, enjoy the heaviness and the unintentional comedy that is "Hangar 18."

Ok, one last post before I call it a day here at the Hangar. I haven't given you something to bang your head to yet, so why not turn to one of the best. It's the legendary Pantera with "Drag The Waters" from their most underrated record, "The Great Southern Trendkill." Enjoy and good night suckas.

Today's YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To

I'll be coming at you with a slew of posts on this very windy Saturday but first, I gotta lube you muthafuckas up (that didn't sound right) by giving you your daily dose of headbanging METAL!

Today's choice was a bit conflicting for me. It's a very cool song but maybe the most heavy-handed "message" video I've ever seen and that includes Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train" video and just about anything from Axl Rose or Michael Jackson. It's "99 Ways To Die" by Megadeth. I'm sure you will enjoy it if you can get past all the "guns suck" preachiness. Here's a way you can enjoy it: put the track on, then scroll through and read some of my old blogs. Your enjoyment of the song will go up five-fold after that.

Today's YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To

Hello there. Sorry no posts yesterday (like you care) but I should have a slate of new things up this weekend. So many that you will be sick of me.

Anyway, time to unleash some classic power metal on that ass with a band that is more known for their difficulty in "Guitar Hero" than anything else. But they do bring back that classic Maiden-like sound and this song in particular is pretty cool. It's England's own Dragonforce with "Through The Fire And The Flames." Since it is more famous for its "Guitar Hero" insanity, I will give you two versions of this: the actual Dragonforce video, followed by someone doing the song on "expert" in "Guitar Hero." Enjoy suckas.

I'll have some new stuff up tonight including a Caps recap and hopefully one more new post. Haven't decided if it will be music or sports related though. Until then, lets continue Slayer Week here at Hangar 39. Before we get to the clip, allow me to alert you to the extreme comedy that is "Slayer Tags" on the band's MySpace page. These are everyday items that have been tagged with the Slayer logo. This one, of course, is my favorite...

...but there's even more goodness where that came from. Some examples...

One last bit of Slayer goodness. This live version of "Mandatory Suicide" from 2004's "Still Reigning" DVD.

Good morrow chaps. We've never had some doom metal on this thread before, so let's do that today. Here's a song by one of the first bands I ever reviewed for Live-Metal.net. It's "Lies That Bind" by Daylight Dies, who's album "Dismantling Devotion," was one of the most hauntingly beautiful records I have ever heard. Hope you dig 'em as well.

We're Back/Today's YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To

As a child of the late 80s/early 90s baseball card boom, I was a voracious reader of Beckett Baseball Card Monthly. It was always a very satisfying sight to look at Beckett and see that my Frank Thomas 1990 Leaf rookie card was worth $100. One of my favorite Beckett issues was the one from, I think, around 1991-92. Bo Jackson, still for my money the best all-around athlete I've ever seen, was coming back to baseball after missing a year due to a hip injury. For those that don't remember Bo, he was a sight to behold. Now, he's more famous for his prowess at the old Techmo Bowl game than anything else, but Bo really was that damn good. He was also one of the first huge crossover athletes (along with Michael Jordan) that became a marketing phenom. Remember the old "Bo Knows" ads?

...anyway, coming to the point. When Bo came back to baseball, Beckett ran this very clever shot of the back of Bo Jackson's jersey with the line "Bo's Back" underneath it. I always loved that shot but alas, it does not live on in Google images, so this old Nike poster will have to do.

So we are back to the business of being Hangar 39 and I'll have at least 2 posts up for you later today, one of which will involve the 25th anniversary of the Baltimore Colts move to Indianapolis.

For now, enjoy your YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To, which is a beauty. It's Metallica covering "The Ecstasy of Gold" from the film "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly." This has long been their entrance music and the video works very well because whoever did it laid the Metallica version of the track over where the original Enrico Morricone version appears in the film. Enjoy fools.

Today's YouTube Clip To Swing Your Heavy Metal Hair To

Hello out there. Things have been a bit quiet here in the old Hangar, mostly because this site is undergoing what they call in Hollywood parlance "a reimagining." Since it's all in my head I can't really tell you what its going to be like but rest assured my devoted readers (who I will now christen "The Five") will enjoy it. I'll be hitting you up with three more posts today and that should hopefully last you through the weekend. I won't have any blogs up here from Friday to Sunday due to my participation in the 2009 Tom Farrell Invitational Hockey Tournament/Beer Fest. So for the first post today, we'll give you a little headbanging music to set the mood and then later this evening I'll come correct with the goodness.

Today's clip is very fitting for this blog. It's from everybody's favorite French-Canadian extreme metal band, Kataklysm, with "Crippled And Broken." Enjoy.

Why not we start the day off with some Norweigian symphonic black metal shall we? Today's band has been on here before but I dig 'em a lot so we'll have them on again. It's Dimmu Borgir with "The Serpentine Offering."

We'll call this one from the unusual cover songs file. I'm not really a big fan of the band Seether, they're pretty much a new milennium version of Bush, but I do enjoy two songs of theirs: "Remedy" and this one, a heavy version of the Wham (yes Wham!) song "Careless Whisper." Really. It's a lot cooler than it has any right to be. There's no real video here, but we got the song in good quality and that's all that counts.

Today's clip is one every metalhead will enjoy. It's Dio's classic "Holy Diver" in it's original 6-minute album version splendor. I don't know what aspect of this video I enjoy the most: the song (which kicks ass), the ridiculous "Highlander"-style sword-and-sorcery imagery or the hunched over walk Dio does throughout the video. I think I would lean toward the walk, partly 'cause its Dio trying to look tough when he's like what? 5'2?

We'll be taking a little break from the sports world today and do one or two pop culture world posts. So those that are tired of reading about hockey, this is your day. To start things off in an extreme metal sort of way, and tie it in with our theme as a cool DC/Baltimore sports blog, we have "Conquistadores" by Baltmo's own Misery Index. These guys formed out of the ashes of the original Dying Fetus lineup and will be playing Maryland DeathFest VII this year. Enjoy suckas.

...is "Feed The Gods" by the late, great White Zombie. This song (and the band) were featured in the 1994 Brendan Frasier/Steve Buscemi/Adam Sandler epic "Airheads," a film that not only featured an appearance by White Zombie, but also a cameo from Lemmy of Motorhead and the classic exchange:
"Who would win in a fight? Lemmy or God?"
"Lemmy"
"Wrong! Trick question, Lemmy IS God!"

Is from the almighty Lemmy and Motorhead. It's their new single "Rock Out" from the album "Motorizer." The best part is the very end when Lemmy is surrounded by two girls. The look on his face is priceless. I guess Bill Simmons would call it the Lemmy "Can We Hurry Up and Finish This Video So I Can Go Nail These Two Chicks" Face.
