Non-Sporting Links

Let's take a break from sports and tooting my own horn to bring out a few non-sports links. In fact, just to show the schizophrenic nature of Hangar 39, I'll follow all the stuff about hockey with a picture of David Hasselhoff...

...and post a link to the Hass singing "Du" on German TV (in German no less). Why? Cause at Hangar 39, we can do anything.

- Our blogging comrade Greg "Snake" Maki has a review and some links regarding the new film "I Love You, Man" starring The Great Paul Rudd (Snake's words not mine).

- Since he's not going to ban fighting there, whenever Gary Bettman is fired as commissioner of the NHL he can next try to ban fighting in bowling. My only question is: Was this a premeditated bowling brawl? Or was it in the heat of the battle? And since one of the bowlers lost a tooth, should that be a 5-minute major?

- Only in Pennsylvania. Does crazy just come with the water up there?

- My hetero life partners in heavy metal, Live-Metal.net, have an interview with John Allen of Baltmo's own Charm City Devils. I saw the Devils in The Rock And Roll Mecca That Is Laurel, Delaware (it's so important I had to capitalize it) and must say they put on a great show. Here's their first video for the song "Let's Rock N' Roll."

- Speaking of which, Western Sussex County is in the national news for bomb threats and text messages about school shootings. Scary stuff 10 years after Columbine, but having been to Seaford, Delaware myself, who the hell would want to bomb anything there? Clearly this is a domestic terrorist that has not graduated to the big leagues.

Short Links/Hockey Brawl Of The Week

Because we are not above "little people" puns here at Hangar 39, we have the late, great Joe C. Kid Rock got about 90 percent less cool when he lost the man that was "3 foot 9 with a 10 foot dick." Today we don't have a lot from Ravens or Orioles world but plenty from Planet Caps. So let's get on with the show.

- The Schmucker on the O's looking into signing Pedro Martinez, who hopefully will bring his little Dominican friend with him.


- The Sun with an interesting story about Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and his buddy, Maryland hoops coach Gary Williams.

- Caps winger Donald Brashear is still a little shaken up following his KO at the hands of Nashville enforcer Wade Belak and could miss tonight's tilt with the Philadelphia Flyers.

- More from Tank and Brash, this time on fighting.

- Japer's with some nice work on Eric Fehr's contributions to the Caps this year and Brian Pothier's attempt to comeback after missing almost two years with concussion issues.

- For those in the Hershey, Pa area, the Stanley Cup and the American Hockey League's top trophy, the Calder Cup, will be on display. (Per On Frozen Blog)

- From the Philly side of things, Caps Public Enemy #1B will likely play tonight. That's right, Danny Briere and his emo bangs will be on the ice. No word if Panic At The Disco is doing his entrance music.

- Jersey Joe Flacco made the rounds today at the Entertainment Steeler Programming Network (that's ESPN for those who can't figure your acronyms). The Sun has all the details. Of course, the Unibrowbomber was asked about one of ESPN's favorite butt boys, the recently released Terrell Owens, and whether the Ravens would have any interest in him. Quick answer: Absolutely, 100 percent fucking NO! As is his wont, Joe Cool (that's three Flacco nicknames in one segment. Impressive Ryan. Most impressive) deflected these queries with his usual Joe-speak. Do any of these ESPN guys remember how Terrell pretty much told the Ravens to go fuck themselves when they traded for him in 2004? Or how he mocked the recently re-signed Ray Lewis' pregame dance after scoring a touchdown against the Ravens in 2004? Or trying to justify his actions by saying he wasn't so bad since he never faced double murder charges like Ray? Or how in his book, Owens accused Ozzie Newsome of being a closet racist? I think Oz would rather do this...

...than sign Owens to play for the Ravens.

-By the way, Big Mike Preston has been on a roll this off-season. I love this idea, even though Ozzie would never do it.

- New Raven Matt Birk is happy to be in Baltmo. Glad to have you too Matt.

- O's win again in exhibition play with a 5-2 win over the Florida Marlins. Last year's first-round pick Brian Matusz looked impressive. A very good sign for the O's future pitching prospects.

- Caps try to get off the schniede (lost 3 of 4 at home) tonight against the bottom-dwelling Toronto Maple Leafs at the Phone Booth. Tank El-Bashir is reporting that Michael Nylander will be back in and Alex Ovechkin, Tom Poti and Jose Theodore are all expected to play.

-Not Caps related but a worthy read from Deadspin on ex-Flyer and current Tampa Bay headcase Steve Downie.

This is lazy blogging at its finest, but since I'm doing this while on the clock, there's no time for a long dissertation. - Ken Murray of the Sun has the antidote to all Ravens fans out there fretting over this Ray Lewis to the Jets or Cowboys business. Personally, I couldn't agree with Murray more on this one. The other thing, if you read Peter King's piece and see some of the ESPN coverage on the possible "Ray to the Cowboys" thing, do you notice a certain glee these national nitwits have when talking about it? Funny how some of these same nitwits were calling Ray a murderer nine years ago. I see, but he's ok now that he may be signing with the national media's beloved Jets or Cowboys. National media, meet my middle finger.

-But if you're a Ravens fan and you are losing sleep over Ray Lew's potential departure, this news from Jamison Hensley ought to perk you up.

-Speaking of pimping the blogs of friends, here's Icon vs. Icon's interview with the director of the Razzie Award winning film (Paris Hilton-Worst Actress) "Repo! The Genetic Opera."

- More bad news for the newspaper industry. Both the Philly Inquirer and Daily News are filing for bankruptcy. I actually applied at the Inquirer about a year ago and now am quite glad I did not get the gig.

-I try to keep this site apolitical, but reading this story on Yahoo!, I couldn't resist. A "Where Are They Now" on officials from the Bush Administration. I hope when they do this 10 years from now, prison is included for some of them. I'm looking at you Dick Cheney.
