Non-Sporting Links

Ok, one more batch of linkage and then I will close tonight's flurry of posts with something original. Really, I promise. Here now are some non-sporting links for those who don't give a crap about sports.

"You seem like shporting fellows, ja?"

- R.I.P. Natasha Richardson. My only question is, this week we've had Ron Silver pass on and now Richardson. Who's next, because celebrity deaths always come in threes. Probably the most star-studded threesome (that didn't die in the same event) was actually 10 years ago this month when Stanley Kubrick, Joe DiMaggio and Dusty Springfield all died in the same week.

- George Bush is writing a book about his decisions. It should be called "If Elected, Don't Do This."

- And we wonder why kids are so fucked up these days.

- Duke Foster is writing a Wrestlemania retrospective for the Icon. You can find Part 1 here and Part 2 here. Just as long as there is mention of Roddy Piper spraying the late Morton Downey Jr. with a fire extinguisher at Wrestlemania V I'm cool.

- Got $32 million dollars? Then you too can buy your own English village.

- Drunken riots in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day. In other news, the sky is blue, roses are red and women have secrets.

Short Links/Hockey Brawl Of The Week

Because we are not above "little people" puns here at Hangar 39, we have the late, great Joe C. Kid Rock got about 90 percent less cool when he lost the man that was "3 foot 9 with a 10 foot dick." Today we don't have a lot from Ravens or Orioles world but plenty from Planet Caps. So let's get on with the show.

- The Schmucker on the O's looking into signing Pedro Martinez, who hopefully will bring his little Dominican friend with him.

- The Sun with an interesting story about Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and his buddy, Maryland hoops coach Gary Williams.

- Caps winger Donald Brashear is still a little shaken up following his KO at the hands of Nashville enforcer Wade Belak and could miss tonight's tilt with the Philadelphia Flyers.

- More from Tank and Brash, this time on fighting.

- Japer's with some nice work on Eric Fehr's contributions to the Caps this year and Brian Pothier's attempt to comeback after missing almost two years with concussion issues.

- For those in the Hershey, Pa area, the Stanley Cup and the American Hockey League's top trophy, the Calder Cup, will be on display. (Per On Frozen Blog)

- From the Philly side of things, Caps Public Enemy #1B will likely play tonight. That's right, Danny Briere and his emo bangs will be on the ice. No word if Panic At The Disco is doing his entrance music.

"Hey guys, is this where I can pick up my Jimmy Eat World tickets?"

YOUR HOCKEY BRAWL OF THE WEEK
In honor of tonight's Caps-Flyers rivalry game, I present this line brawl from the early 90s between these two clubs. Observe Officer Don Koharski taking notes while all five guys plus the goalies go at it. Way to go Officer Koharski!

Non-Sporting Links:

- The Quantum Mechanics of Bloomfield loves him some bailout humor.

- Maki At The Movies has all your entertainment links that are fit to print.

- The Icon has the word on The Rock's steroid use in college.

"The Great One says inject his ass jabroni!"

- More info from the Icon on the upcoming Nine Inch Nails-Jane's Addiction tour.

- Finally, your YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is "Get To The Choppa" by Austrian Death Machine. We here at Hangar 39 fully support the integration of brutal death metal and Arnold Schwarzenegger lines.

Linkage is back...

Because we frequently pay homage to bad movies here at Hangar 39, here's Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear helping kill the Farrelly brothers career with "Stuck On You." What does this have to do with links? Absolutely nothing. So, with that being said, here's some links about the Good Guys with some non-sporting links thrown in. Accumulated by me, so you wouldn't have to look for it.

- Ray Lewis' deal: 7 years $44 million with a $12 million signing bonus. Interesting deal. A 7 year contract for a guy who will be 34 years old come regular season? I know the Sun is saying that it's basically a three-year deal but knowing Ray Lewis, there has to be something else here. My hunch is that there has to be some sort of handshake agreement to keep Ray Lew in a prominent role after he retires. He can't play until he's 41 right?

- Longtime readers of Hanger 39 (both of you) will know I've sung Derrick Mason's praises before as one of the nicer Ravens. Um, yeah, I may want to revise that in light of his new contract demands.

- Tank and Japer's have the recaps of last night's Caps-Predators tilt.

-Excellent get from Dan Steinberg over at DC Sports Bog: an interview with the founder of Easterns Motors about Alex Ovechkin's upcoming ads. If these results are any indication...

...Ovie needs to sing more often. It's a tough call which clip is better. The Easterns Motors clip is catchier, even more so with Ovie's Russian accent. But at the same time, it's hard to top his "Washington DC...ARE YOU READY TO ROCK!!" combined with Mike Green and Jose Theodore's emo eyeliner and Brooks Laich's Mark Tremonti guitar poses.

- In the days since my last links post I missed three Orioles spring training results (not that they matter): a 2-0 defeat to Minnesota, a 9-8 loss to the Mets and a 5-1 win over the Red Sox.

- The Sun on Aubrey Huff's metamorphosis from useless free agent bust to "guy who could fetch something nice in a trade this summer".

Non-Sporting Links:

- Sad stuff out of Alabama and Germany.

- Bernie Madoff may get 150 years in the slammer. I imagine Bernie in jail will be just like Albert Brooks in "Out Of Sight." BTW, if you have never read Harry Markopolis' whistle-blower report that brought Madoff down please do. Here's an HTML link to it from the original PDF format. It's a truly fascinating read, even if you don't know what the hell a hedge fund is, like me. I just love the Madoff case because it's brought the term "Ponzi Scheme" back into the national consciousness.

- The Bushies are still pushing Dubya's "legacy." Please, people, you've done enough, really.

- From the Icon, they are making a movie based on N.W.A. and "Straight Outta Compton." Better than a remake I suppose. Just as long as "I Ain't The 1" is in it, I'm cool.

- Finally, today's YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is "Institutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies. All the guy wanted was a Pepsi!

Morning links...

Hello dear Hangar 39 readers, what there are of you. For those of you who may be new to this here site, just know that this is where the magic happens...

...Anyway, here are some links from the world of Capitals hockey, Ravens football, Orioles baseball and a few from the world of pop culture. I will be back later with photos and a full report from today's Caps-Penguins tilt.

- Sidney Crosby. Still whining.

-Hoo-Rah! Alex Ovechkin will be back in the lineup this afternoon.

-Tom Boswell on the Caps recent three-game losing skid.

- Ovie has officially made it. He now has his own Easterns Motors commercial.

- The Orioles split this weekend's spring training games, beating the Nationals 6-2 and losing to the Marlins 3-2 in 10 innings. The O's will face the Minnesota Twins today at 1:05 pm.

- Another nice article about Matt Wieters from the Schmucker. Damn I can't wait for this kid to come to Baltimore. Judging by his hitting this spring, he's making it harder and harder for them to send him to Norfolk to start the season.

- Looks like Manny Acta and the Washington Nationals coaching staff is learning the same things about Daniel Cabrera that O's fans got to know and loathe over the past five years.

- Now that Ray Lewis' situation has been taken care of, the next long-time Raven without a contract is kicker Matt Stover. At first it appeared the Ravens weren't going to bring him back but Ozzie Newsome says they could bring him back. David Steele says the team should bring him back and I agree. Let Stove come back on a one or two-year deal. He's still just about automatic within 45 yards, he's a good guy and the fans love him.

- After signing Domonique Foxworth, Ray Lew and Matt Birk, Ozzie says the Ravens aren't done adding players yet.

- Nice work from The Sun's Rick Maese on Ravens guard Chris Chester and his preparations for life after football.

Non-Sporting Links:

-Please welcome a good buddy of Hangar 39's to the blog-o-sphere, Big Cat Chris Bartlett and his new blog, Quantum Mechanics of Bloomfield.

-Coolio is busted for crack cocaine. I have no words.

- From the Icon, just what the world needs - 1) another remake and 2) another WWE Film. I suppose we're just stopping trying to think of our own ideas. Can't some of these people just buy a Robert McKee or Syd Field book and at least pretend to think of a new idea.

- Finally, today's YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is...there is no clip because YouTube is being a little bitch this morning.

Short links..

With all the snow falling here on the East Coast, it's pretty much like Siberia over here. Thus, it's a slow day of linkage here at Hangar 39. As usual, this is a compendium of stuff from the Ravens, Orioles, Towson Tigers and Capitals with some pop culture stuff thrown in for good measure. Because here at Hangar 39, I compile the links so you don't have to. I will be back later today with a Caps-'Canes recap and possibly another post. Okey dokey Dr. Jones? Now we go for a ride...

- The O's won their second straight exhibition game with a 5-3 victory over the Sawx.

- The Sun has some info on another of the O's highly touted pitching prospects, Brad Bergeson. Also, the Schmucker addresses whether or not to put the O's young pitchers in the rotation now or later.

-THE Towson University lacrosse team lost to 9-4 to University of Denver over the weekend.

- Negotiations between the Ravens and free agent tackle Marvel Smith have cooled a bit. I didn't even know they were negotiating in the first place. Why is Ozzie negotiating with a former Steeler trash? Shouldn't Kordell Stewart and Keydrick Vincent have taught him that there's a reason the She-lers get rid of these guys?

"Anyone else wanna negotiate?"

- The Caps will have Viktor Kozlov back for tonight's game against Carolina.

Non-Sporting Links:

-Our man MoGo at Icon vs. Icon was busy during yesterday's snow day. First up is Gene Simmons' quest for even more money. Maybe Gene can title his next book, "How To Piss On Your Band's Legacy." Also, cool news regarding Crue Fest 2: Motley will be playing the "Dr. Feelgood" album in its entirety. Just as long as they scratch "Without You," that's all good with me. Finally, Sam Raimi is taking a break from making "Spiderman" films to do another horror movie. Should have a significant awesomeness factor.

- The best woman's name in history, Arianna Huffington (seriously, is that a great name or what?) puts some smack down on Karl Rove.

-Finally, today's YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is one of the bands playing at this year's Maryland Death Fest VII, England's own, Napalm Death with "Silence Is Deafening." The best part of this clip is the guy giving sign language in the right corner of the frame.

Lazy links on a day without work...

So we've had our first blizzard here on the East Coast, which means most of us were able to get out of work. Hoo-rah! Of course, the bad part is that I will have to drive an hour and change back to Coastal Delaware but, oh well. It's worth it to not have to sit in a Rehoboth Beach commissioners meeting. Before I get to the usual shenanigans I do in this space, for my friends on the West Coast or anywhere not on the East Coast, here's what it looks like outside here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland...

...so with that, all there really is to do today is blog, watch ridiculous action flicks like "Face/Off" and download stuff to iTunes. 'Cause you know I need to hear me some "Ten Seconds To Love." Anyway, on with the links, mostly regarding the Orioles, Ravens and Capitals but also includes anything else that may tickle my fancy. If you can dig it, SUCKAAAAA!

-Not all of our teams at THE Towson University have issues winning. Give it up for our swimming and diving team, which captured its second straight CAA title. They have a long way to catch the dance team, which won, I think, like 3 national championships in a row. We may not be good at football and basketball but our dance team will RULE your school's dance team. Beeeotch!

- The Orioles moved over .500 in spring training with a 7-5 win over the Nats.

-Other O's items: first, Jeff Zrebiec has a story on Matt Wieters. I cannot wait until this kid shows up in B-Mo. He's going to be a good one. Second, it didn't take long for Rich Hill to get hurt. He's got some stiffness in his elbow and shoulder. Uh, not good. To make up for Hill's injury, the O's took a flier on oft-injured ex-Padre Adam Eaton. Great, so that way, if he makes the club he can get hurt for us just like he did for the Padres, Rangers and Phillies.

- Big Mike has a story on Samari Rolle, who, in light of the Domonique Foxworth signing and being asked to take a pay cut, now wants to be released. I am flat out opposed to doing this because in Baltimore, we need a guy who looks like Avon Barksdale from "The Wire" on the club.
Samari:

Avon:

-Jamison Hensley has more on the Foxworth signing, from Ozzie Newsome's perspective.

-Tank has Alex Ovechkin's reaction to the whole Don Cherry hollaballoo.

-On Frozen Blog on whether the Caps should make any moves at the trade deadline.

Non-Sporting Links:

- From the Icon: Snoop Dogg has joined up with the Nation of Islam. Tomorrow's story: Snoop Dogg finds a way to cash in on his joining the Nation of Islam. I swear, Snoop may just be the rap equivalent to Gene Simmons.

- I spoke earlier of the legendary "The Wire." One thing I always find amusing is playing "Hey, it's That Guy from 'The Wire!'" Well, this week's "That Guy from 'The Wire'" winner is former Baltimore mayor and Maryland Governor Tommy Carcetti now appearing in the newest John Cena masterpiece, "12 Rounds."

- Tree-hugging liberal post of the day: "Comedian" Rush Limbaugh is under fire from new Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. I love Republican on Republican crime.

-Get ready for Maryland Death Fest VII! Best band name this year? A toss-up between Lair of the Minotaur and Entrails Massacre. Expect Hangar 39 to be joining up with live-metal.net on this one.

- Finally, today's YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is very much on the political side but it rocks like a motherfucker. It's "No W" by Ministry.

Saturday links...

Hello and good morning my humble readership. Today I am coming to you LIVE from my mother's house where I'm spending my weekend making sure these two little terrors...

...don't cause too much mischief. Of course, their real purpose in life is to keep me awake at all hours of the night. They say a dog can hear a tick yawn at 50 yards (not my words, Sports Illustrated's) and I really wish that were not the case. These two dogs will bark at anything. They'll hear a squirrel moving around outside and start yapping. They'll hear the neighbors dogs and start yapping. They'll see a bird at the bird feeder in the backyard and start barking. I know what you're thinking. How bad can two little Yorkshire Terriers be? Well, if you value your sleep, as the Sam the Drummer told Dewey Cox, "you don't want no part of this shit!"

Anyway, on with the links, if you can dig it, SUCKAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

-I don't always agree with everything Mike Preston says, but in both of these cases, Big Mike is absolutely right on. First off, Preston lets Ray Lewis have it for his disastrous attempt to create a market for himself. Then he gives a blog post about maybe the happiest man in Baltimore when Albert Haynesworth signed a $100 million deal with the Redskins: Haloti Ngata.

-O's lost their second exhibition game to the Marlins, 3-2. Japanese import Koji Uehara had a very solid two innings of work, holding Florida to no runs and one hit while striking out three of eight batters. In other news, Mark Hendrickson still sucks. Believe me, I know, I got a regular look at Hendrickson during his stint with the Dodgers in 2006. The only difference between him and Danys Baez (who I also got a good look at with the Dodgers before he signed with the O's) is that Hendrickson, thankfully, is only on a one-year deal.

-THE Towson University hoops team closes out its season tonight in Fairfax against George Mason. The game in prime-time on MASN at 8 p.m.

-The Tank over at the WaPo has all your info regarding today's Caps-Bruins game. The big news from the Boston side, per Tarik, is that two members of the Bruins top line, Milan Lucic and Marc Savard are questionable. For those not familiar with Lucic, here's a sampling of his work...

...Poor Matt Bradley may not want to remember this one...

Non-Sporting links:

-Icon vs. Icon has a link to an absolute MUST READ interview with the one, the only W. Axl Rose. Pretty much kills Slash and the old Gunners from beginning to end. Classic musings from either a musical genius or a certifiable madman.

-Much thanks to my fellow blogger, movie critic and fellow Towson Tiger, Greg "Snake" Maki, for the shout-out.

-Roger Ebert blogs about snarking. Very well-written (as if anything written by Rog wouldn't be) and kinda puts the whole function of blogs like Perez Hilton and Kissing Suzy Kolber (although I like KSK) into a different perspective.

-One more from Rog. Nobody does a bad movie review quite like Roger Ebert and these are two of my favorites. The first is for 2005's "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" and the other is for 1991's "Dice Rules"

-Finally, today's YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is from the old school, "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" by Megadeth.

Friday lazy links..

Hello to all out there, you cheeky bastards. I'll have a couple of posts later today, the first will be getting a Redskins fans' take on the signings of Albert Haynesworth and DeAngelo Hall and the second will be related to my babysitting of two small dogs. I'm sure you're waiting with baited breath. Until then, here are your links...SUCKAAAASSS!!!

-Here's the lowdown on last night's Caps win from from Japer's and the Tank.

-The Orioles won their first exhibition game of the season, 11-3 over the St.Louis Cardinals. The Sun has the details.

-Another O's story, this one about new shortstop Cesar Izturis. He may not be able to hit a lick, but there's not a chance he's any worse than Freddy Bynum or Alex Cintron.

-Free agency has begun in the NFL and Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, Jason Brown and Jim Leonhard are all out there for the Cowboys and Redskins to overpay for. I love Ozzie and I trust him, but how in the world could he not get a deal done with ANY of these guys before they hit the market?

-From last night's Caps game, my new Facebook friend Donald Brashear vs. Eric Boulton.

Non-sporting links:

-Icon vs. Icon has some info about Kiss, who are going into the studio to record their new album "The Search For More Money."

-More from the Icon regrding DMX beating up a prison guard. Nice to see that life behind bars has changed him.

-Finally, today's YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is "Let Me Give You A Hand Throwing Yourself Out" by Killwhitneydead. One of the most violent music videos ever made.

Lazy links...

This morning I'll send a few links up related to the sports teams collectively known as "the good guys" (that would be the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles and Washington Capitals for those who haven't figured it out yet). This is lazy blogging at its finest, but since I'm doing this while on the clock, there's no time for a long dissertation. For the few of you that like that sort of thing, I'll be back later tonight with an Orioles related post and a recap of tonight's Caps-Flyers tilt. Until then, enjoy...SUCKAAAAAASSSSSS!!!!!

- Japer's Rink has a preview of tonight's Caps game. Let's see how the team responds to another rivalry game. Surely, the Flyers will not fold like a tent when the Caps play a little rough with them like Pittsburgh did.

-More from On Frozen Blog regarding the Crosby-Ovechkin business from Sunday

-I mentioned Felix Pie in my O's post from this weekend. Well, he is just now getting to spring training due to visa issues in the Dominican Republic. The Schmucker has the details.

- Ken Murray of the Sun has the antidote to all Ravens fans out there fretting over this Ray Lewis to the Jets or Cowboys business. Personally, I couldn't agree with Murray more on this one. The other thing, if you read Peter King's piece and see some of the ESPN coverage on the possible "Ray to the Cowboys" thing, do you notice a certain glee these national nitwits have when talking about it? Funny how some of these same nitwits were calling Ray a murderer nine years ago. I see, but he's ok now that he may be signing with the national media's beloved Jets or Cowboys. National media, meet my middle finger.

-But if you're a Ravens fan and you are losing sleep over Ray Lew's potential departure, this news from Jamison Hensley ought to perk you up.

Non-Sports Department:

- My old buddy Greg "Snake" Maki has a review of Oscar night.

-Speaking of pimping the blogs of friends, here's Icon vs. Icon's interview with the director of the Razzie Award winning film (Paris Hilton-Worst Actress) "Repo! The Genetic Opera."

- More bad news for the newspaper industry. Both the Philly Inquirer and Daily News are filing for bankruptcy. I actually applied at the Inquirer about a year ago and now am quite glad I did not get the gig.

-I try to keep this site apolitical, but reading this story on Yahoo!, I couldn't resist. A "Where Are They Now" on officials from the Bush Administration. I hope when they do this 10 years from now, prison is included for some of them. I'm looking at you Dick Cheney.

-Finally, our YouTube clip to swing your heavy metal hair to is "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" by Prong.
